Municipal Links from DSWD Region 10, under Set 1 Municipalities, recently attended the Consultation Workshop with Department of Education. This joint activity of DSWD and DepEd is in line with the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Project, which is a government-initiated scheme of reducing poverty among Filipino households in the country through provision of conditional cash grants.

There were two DepEd Programs that were introduced to the MLs wherein the target recipients are also the 4Ps beneficiaries. These programs are Food for School Program (FSP) and the Healthy Start Program (HSP).

A Home Gardening and Organic Fertilization were also discussed by the Department of Agriculture, under their “Gulayan ng Masa” program. The staff of 4Ps needs to be part of this program since the 4Ps beneficiaries are required plant vegetables through provision of seven kinds of vegetable seeds. This activity is in response to one of the 4Ps goal which is to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.

The said trainings are expected to help the Municipal Links in addressing the needs of the beneficiaries and effective implementation of the program as well. ###Arnold Gesta Buhisan, 4Ps Training Officer

These eight beneficiaries will be assigned in Talakag, Bukidnon, one from Don Victoriano, MisamisOccidental while 6 will be assigned in the Municipalities of Lanao del Norte, including two new areas in Iligan City.

4Ps is currently expanding its target coverage to enable the government to better pursue its objective to help as many poor families in the country as possible. The Program is a scheme of the government to reduce poverty by providing conditional cash grants to poorest Filipino households for their health, nutrition, and education. Each family is given a maximum of P1,400.00 to subsidize their needs for school supplies and for the daily sustenance of the family.

Meanwhile, MLs are now having their orientation to be familiarized with the Program. At this time, they are now also trying to comply with the requirements for their new assignment. The said MLs are expected to report to their assigned areas on the second week of September 2010.
